Post viral and covid recovery
Since COVID-19, we have become increasingly aware of the short- and long-term impacts of various illnesses on our health. Enhancing our diet, ensuring adequate sleep, and building physical strength while avoiding Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM) can all contribute to recovery.
Exploring other potential contributing factors, such as histamine intolerance, can also be beneficial. Incorporating breathing exercises and addressing mental health issues are crucial components of the recovery pathway
Additionally, monitoring for any blood abnormalities and the use of supplements can further support the recovery process.
Histamine Intolerance
Symptoms can vary widely and may resemble an allergic reaction, making it difficult to diagnose. It may be triggered by severe infections, eg Covid-19. Sufferers may have seen multiple specialists without receiving a clear diagnosis, as often symptoms are looked at individually and not as a whole-person situation.
Common symptoms include:
Gastrointestinal Symptoms: Bloating, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and nausea.
Skin Reactions: Hives, itching, and eczema.
Respiratory Symptoms: Nasal congestion, runny nose, and asthma-like symptoms.
Neurological Symptoms: Headaches, migraines, dizziness, and fatigue.
Cardiovascular Symptoms: Flushing, rapid heart rate, and low blood pressure.
Only 2 of these need to be present to consider this as a possible diagnosis and consider making dietary and medical changes.
Initial use of supplements and medication can give rapid relief of symptoms, but longer term resolution of symptoms can take some time. However, at least once recognised, we can work towards a solution and feeling well again.
